Time to count the costs, once again I travelled alone by car, which is never going to be a cheap option. With advance planning you could possibly fly cheaply to the South of France or Northern Spain and hire a car locally.

Ferry Crossings: £65
Fuel: £223
Tolls: £31
Lift Passes, Tolls, Food and Sundries: £264
Hotels: £272

Total of Above: £855

Hi Mark, that's more expensive than flying out to the Alps and staying in a 4 star hotel for a week, including transfers and lift pass, so what made you do it?

  1. Sharon, I was supposed to be on a week long sailing trip in the Baltic over the Easter period, but with a couple of weeks to go it had to be postponed due to the poor health of the captain and highly unsuitable weather.

I started looking for any last minute ski bargains. I had wanted to visit Andorra for a long time and they were skibike friendly and offered high altitude pistes.

I looked at the Three Valleys in France, which I used to love but couldn't find anything at such short notice. Travelling on your own, incured surcharges, which brought the costs up considerably.

I hadn't considered Austria, as I was under the impression that they don't have much to offer in the way of high altitude resorts, bar some glaciers?

Lastly I hadn't taken the time to cost the alternatives, i.e. fly out and rent a skibike locally. I am totally shocked that you could stay 4 star in the Alps for less.

Perhaps we could do some head to head comparisons of costs and publish them. This site is all about information for skibikers, so everyone would win.
