Sold - Lenz Sport Alpine Brawler #1 - £ Offers

This is the first of a pair of Lenz Sport Alpine Brawlers, available as pre-season offers. The owner is based in South Germany, but Worldwide shipping will be available, the USA would cost around $120 for example.

For sale - Lenz Sport Alpine Brawler - £ Offers

Already a well-respected manufacturer of high-end mountain bikes, Lenz Sport entered the ski bike market in 2004 after Devin Lenz, the owner of the company, traded two of his old mountain bike frames for some commercially made ski bike conversion kits.
The brand has been continuously evolving since then, most of the parts are manufactured in house to very high standards  Everything about these skibikes oozes the sort of bespoke quality rarely seen elsewhere and Lenz Sport has become the benchmark against which many other brands are judged.

The Alpine Brawler was an early model which clearly took a lot of design cues from the sport of Motocross riding. It offers a lot of suspension travel, which is ideal for those who want to do a lot of off piste riding or get big air in the snow parks. The heft of this model will aid stability at speed even over the roughest terrain, but it would be best appreciated by the younger, fitter or more athletic rider. In short, it's not for "here hold my beer" old codgers.

Condition:

It is still in very good condition, the current owner works in the automotive industry and doesn't mess about when it comes to maintenance. It comes with a fresh serviced pair of SB12 skis. The forks and damper have been serviced as well. The rear adapter, bushings and bearings are brand new

Specifications:
  • Medium frame size
  • Marzocchi 888 fork, RC3 Evo V2 with 200mm travel
  • Fox Vanilla R rear damper with a white 750 Eibach spring
  • Stock handlebars
  • Lenz Sport SB12 skis with 103 cm length and 12 meter radius
  • Rear adapter, bushings and bearings are brand new
  • Lenz SECUREST chairlift managing system
  • Lenz precision machined ski mounting system
  • Stock long padded seat

Collection:

Collection is possible, the owner is based in South Germany, but Worldwide shipping will be available. The USA would cost around $120 for example.

Summary:

This is a premium specification skibike which retailed at $3274 (over £2000) in the USA. For UK & European buyers, items like this don't come up for sale in Europe very often. Even if you can find similar items in the USA, don't be fooled by the price shown in Dollars. Once you have paid the courier costs (£75+), import duty (2.7% of value), VAT (20% of value) and sundry other "incidental" costs, the real price could be nearly doubled.

This is something you won't get to see every day, the big daddy of skibikes, a gorgeous hand made Lenz Sport Alpine Brawler, on sale, right here in the UK and at a knock down price to boot. If you haven't heard of Lenz Sport, where have you been for the last decade?
Already a well-respected manufacturer of high-end mountain bikes, Lenz Sport entered the ski bike market in 2004 after Devin Lenz, the owner of the company, traded two of his old mountain bike frames for some commercially made ski bike conversion kits.

The brand has been continuously evolving since then, most of the parts are manufactured in house to very high standards and Lenz Sport has become the benchmark against which many other brands are judged.

For Sale - Lenz Sport Alpine Brawler in Kawasaki green

This particular one is a large framed model, finished in a classic Kawasaki Green colour. It was purchased new directly from Devin Lenz a few years ago and for the owner it is a reluctant sale, he has had a lot of fun on it in the Alps, but now mostly skis with his kids.

Condition:

It is still in very good condition with just a few light scratches on the frame. There is some light rust on the ski edges, which will come right off once tuned up for next season and there is also a small hole in the seat cover (thanks to a rogue bungee hook).

For Sale - Lenz Sport Alpine Brawler

Specifications:
  • 8 inches of front travel with a Rockshox BoXXer Fork
  • 6 inches of rear travel
  • Lenz SECUREST chairlift managing system
  • Lenz precision machined ski mounting system
  • Long padded seat for comfort and protection
  • Fitted with “Monster” foot pegs for superior control

Rockshox BoXXer - 8 inches of front travel

Collection:

Available for pick-up only in Headley, East Hampshire, UK which is about an hour from London down the A3, between Guildford and Petersfield.

Summary:

This is a premium specification skibike which retails at $3274 (over £2000) in the USA. Sterling may be strong against the Dollar currently, but nothing like this is currently available in the UK. Even if you can find similar items in the USA, don't be fooled by the price shown in Dollars. Once you have paid the courier costs (£75+), import duty (2.7% of value), VAT (20% of value) and sundry other "incidental" costs, the real price could be nearly doubled.

This Lenz Sport Alpine Brawler is right here in the UK, all ready for pick up, oh and don't assume it will still be here in January, the owner is considering taking it with him to Switzerland, don't let this rare opportunity slip away.

Building LenzSport Custom Frames

Reinhart Blasig recommended this excellent video showing the many processes involved in creating the frame for LenzSport skibikes and mountain bikes. When you see the level of craftsmanship and detail that goes into the creation of a LenzSport skibike it gives you a better appreciation of just why they cost so much.

LenzSport SkiBike Cut Price Sale

I had an interesting mail from LenzSport last week, in reply to my enquiry. There had been an interesting post running on the FaceBook Snow Biking Group discussing the possibility of testing a Firem VS against a LenzSport SkiBike. What I had in mind was not too serious, just a chance for some riders to make a few runs on different machines with some sort of gentlemanly contest to finish. The sort of thing you see in classic car mags, etc. all the time. An opportunity for both brands to get a little extra publicity and everyone to have some fun together.
Unfortunately finding a LenzSport in Europe or a Firem VS in the USA would seem to be a futile task, at least for now.
However they did remind me that there are still some cracking deals to be had on the remaining stock of ex-demo and older models here; with prices ranging from $1300 - $1800 and a selection of styles, sizes and colours, there should be something to tempt every type of skibiker.

Brandon Schmit - Freestyle Skibike

In music, counterpoint is the relationship between two or more voices that are independent in contour and rhythm and are harmonically interdependent. So in counterpoint to my last post showing the amazing bike skills of Danny MacAskill, I present freestyle skibiker Brandon Schmit
Before skibikes were banned at Copper Mountain, Brandon Schmit regularly hit the features in their terrain parks. He put together a demo video back in 2009 of all the tricks he could do then. Brandon has produced more video's since this one, but it's still amazing what he could do on the skibike back then.

The new Lenz Sport Launch freestyle bike that Brandon had a hand in creating has moved his riding even further.
